CARPARK TOWNHOMES

Frisco, Texas

Conceived as part of a larger town center/mixed use development, 20 residential units are "wallpapered" to multistory public parking garages in Frisco, Texas.  The parking garages are seen as the walls of an urban room in need of aesthetic treatment.  Rather than a surface treatment solely on the face of the garage, i.e., simply screening the garage, the "wallpaper" is viewed as inhabitable space that creates a use, thus adding a denser weave to the urban fabric.  The Carpark Townhomes can be seen as a possible prototype residential project that addresses density, the urban fabric, and the adaptability of residential space to match the wishes of the user while creating a pleasing, pedestrian scaled urban environment.
